What Is a Green Facade and How to Get Rid of It

22. 6. 2015

A green facade is render covered with mould, moss and algae colonies that have settled on it in large numbers. Its formation is encouraged by high air humidity or the presence of nearby vegetation. Contamination also arrives from the air.
The facade cleaning process involves the use of hot water (approximately 60°C), driven at high pressure through a nozzle onto the render, thereby removing contaminants. The heat releases and destroys the organisms on the treated surface. The green discolouration disappears along with them, and the original vibrant colour of the surface is revealed.
You do not need your own technical equipment or staff to renovate a facade — our technicians will carefully clean even tall buildings using high-access equipment.
A fungicidal spray can then be applied to prevent fungi and moss from settling on the facade again.
Repainting a green facade with a new coat without professional cleaning and disinfection is not recommended. The originally settled growth can reappear before long if it was not thoroughly removed and destroyed before painting.
Facade cleaning is a more affordable alternative to repainting — it is a renovation of the original surface, as opposed to the uneconomical investment of a completely new facade. In terms of cost, facade cleaning works out at approximately one quarter of the price, with the same effect.
